Ceradyne manufactures metal fabrication tools for machining (milling and turning) of cast iron. The inserts, produced from either Ceralloy® 147-31E or Ceralloy® 147-31J Silicon Nitride, are used for the high speed milling of cast iron parts. The metal fabrication tools contain inserts that are competitive with the best silicon nitrides available and are used when high speeds and depths of cut are required.


The application of metal fabrication tools relies on the strength, thermal shock resistance, wear resistance, and the chemical compatibility of silicon nitride with cast iron.
