cim design guide

Here are some guidelines to best match the advantages of CIM:

Sizes

  • Less than 100 grams.
  • Wall thicknesses < 0.5 inch.
  • Wall thicknesses > 0.010 inch.
Shapes
  • CIM allows for complex features on all three axis.
Tolerances
  • Most economical when designed ± 0.003 in. per linear inch of dimension.
  • Tolerances as tight as ± 0.001 in per linear inch can be achieved.
  • Small dimensions tolerances of ± 0.0005 in per linear inch can be held.
Densities
  • From approx 95% to 99+% of full material density.
Quantities
  • Quest can mold one part up to several thousand.
  • The highest part quantities offer the best cost benefits.
Materials
Include:
  • Alumina
  • Zirconia
  • Blends thereof
  • Cermets
Properties
  • CIM equals or exceeds other forming methods such as machining, pressing, slip casting, etc.
  • The Quest Technology process yields a component with a fine grain structure, essentially fully dense, resulting in outstanding physical properties.
