Ceradyne offers a complete family of silicon nitride materials.
Ceralloy® 147 Gas Pressured Sintered Silicon Nitride (GP-SRBSN)
is a family of fully dense materials having a range of compositions that are
produced in cost effective, complex net shapes. This grade of silicon nitride
has the best combination of properties making it the leading technical ceramic
for a number of structural applications including:
Automotive Engine
Bearings
and Rolling Elements
Industrial
Wear
Armor Systems
Ceralloy® 147 GP-SRBSN or Needlelok® Silicon Nitride is
produced using patented compositions and processing techniques that result in
an in-situ silicon nitride interlocking needle like microstructure. This
microstructure toughens the silicon nitride by a crack deflection process
similar to that found in composite materials. The result is a monolithic
silicon nitride ceramic having exceptional hardness and superb fracture
toughness that translates to superior mechanical reliability.
Ceralloy® 147-3 GP-SRBSN or Needlelok® Silicon Nitride is
produced using high pressure sintering that results in an essentially pore free
microstructure. When combined with the inherent toughness of silicon nitride,
it results in a material with outstanding Hertzian contact fatigue resistance.
Ceralloy® 147-3 GP-SRBSN has the following key characteristics:
-
Lightweight
-
Strong
-
Hard
-
Tough
-
Low Coefficient of Friction
-
Thermal Shock Resistant
-
Wear Resistant
-
Contact Fatigue Resistant
Ceralloy® 147 Reaction Bonded Silicon Nitride (RBSN) is a high
purity grade of silicon nitride having a density of approximately 70-80%
theoretical. RBSN has excellent thermal shock resistance and outstanding
compatibility with non-ferrous molten metals. This lower cost alternative to
the fully dense silicon nitride grades can be manufactured to close tolerance
without the need for expensive diamond grinding.
Ceralloy® 147 Hot Pressed Silicon Nitride (HPSN) is formulated
into a variety of compositions having minimal densification aids. These HPSN
compositions offer the highest strength of Ceradyne’s silicon nitrides.
Finished components are machined at Ceradyne’s precision diamond grinding
facility. Products produced from HPSN are:
