Founded in 1967, Ceradyne has diversified its technically advanced ceramics in product lines to capture opportunities created by the growing demand for better performing materials. Late in 2004 Ceradyne acquired ESK Ceramics, one of the world’s leading suppliers of powders used in manufacturing advanced ceramics in order to increase productivity and products lines.
Now headquartered in Costa Mesa, California, Ceradyne Inc. is a fully integrated developer and manufacturer of advanced ceramics and components for defense, industrial, automotive/diesel, electronic and medical markets.
Because of their diverse array of product lines and expertise in advanced ceramics, Ceradyne is now a leading manufacturer of lightweight, ceramic composite armor systems for personnel, vehicle, watercraft, helicopter and aircraft applications which are then tested in an in-house ballistics range to ensure top quality and durability.
Because of the unique characteristics of advanced ceramics, including hardness, light weight, ability to withstand extremely high temperatures, resistance to wear and corrosion, low friction, and special electrical properties significant advantages present themselves over traditional materials like metals and plastics. As a result, components made from Ceradyne’s advanced ceramics are being used in a large number of high performance applications in an ever-expanding range of industries and processes.
